“Pegamento” is a young adult book by Pedro Martínez Canut.
It was great to bring the characters of this endearing story to life. Pedro gave me total freedom to do the illustrations, so I enjoyed them a lot and I think it shows in the final result!! Thanks Pedro!
The illustration style is youthful and calm. Hector is a teenager who has Asperger’s syndrome. He has social problems understanding and communicating with the world around him. That is why the characters who know how to relate to him and everything that belongs to his world have color, separating them from the gray and incomprehensible world that surrounds him.
“This imaginative story is about a teenager, Hector, who not only suffers from bullying at school but also has the bad fortune of belonging to a dysfunctional family with many problems. The protagonist faces most of these problems with logic, but this leads him to various entanglements that become more complicated as the days go by, since the relationship that Hector establishes with others is the result of the social problems he faces and various misunderstandings that he cannot resolve. The protagonist has difficulties to function in society more than any other teenager: he has Asperger’s syndrome. This story accurately captures some of the most common characteristics of those who have this little-known autism spectrum disorder.”
